Flood situation in Dhemaji district of Assam is worsening as surging waters of the rivers have inundated fresh rural areas in all four revenue circles of the district besides damaging vast are standing crops.

Monsoon rain is continuing its wrath in Siang valley of Arunachal and Dhemaji of Assam, creating flash flood and erosion problem in the region.
Water level in mighty Siang and other rivers of the region are on rising trend due to torrential rain in the upper reaches of northern hill sites.

Siang river is flowing above danger level at Pasighat posing serious threat to Jonai in downstream Assam.
The District Disaster Management Authority of Dhemaji has reported that a total 1,38,434 populations of 430 villages have been affected by flash flood in the district so far.
A total of 9,189 hectares cropland is reeling under flood water.
The circle wise breakup of affected villages in the district is Dhemaji 31, Gogamukh 64, Sisiborgaon 118 and Jonai 219.
Worst affected Jonai circle alone has about 72,300 affected people including four villages of Kobuchapori sar and riverine villages of Bahir-Sille, Bahir-Jonai, Rayang-Bijoypur, Siga, Randhan and Misamara panchayats.

The flash flood has claimed two lives – one in Dhemaji and other at Sissiborgaon circles, while three persons are reportedly missing after a machine boat capsized in Jonai circle.
The district administration has not yet opened flood relief camp, but it is distributing food, fodder and other essential items among the worst-hit people.

Thus, it has already distributed about 463.26 quintal rice, 80.84 quintal dal and 24.24 quintal salt in the affected sites under Gogamukh circle, while it distributed 1,975 Tarpaulin in Jonai revenue circle.
Two teams of NRDF and SRDF has been engaged in flood rescue operation at Sissiborgaon and Jonai circles of the district respectively.
