A day after launching a “Child Friendly Space in Emergency (CFSie) at Majuli on Monday, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Dhemaji in association of local organisation Rural Volunteers Centre on Tuesday opened a CFSie centre in a relief camp at Jonai in Dhemaji district.
The Rural Volunteer Centre (RVC), a Dhemaji based NGO, is implementing the UNICEF supported project for taking proper care of the children of flood-hit families during the disastrous situation.

The NGO has designed the ‘pilot project’ with UNICEF guideline to ensure protection of rights of the affected children.
RVC’s publicity secretary Dharmaraj Karki informed that their effort is to keep the child rights intact during natural disasters.
“The CFSie project includes safe custody and nutritional feeding of the children besides entertainment facility and health educational. It is in fact to protect the affected children from anti-social elements during the odd time” said Karki.

He expressed hope that their volunteers would gather feedback about ‘challenges’ of the task.
Meanwhile, Jonai sub-divisional officer Nisarge Hivare, circle officer Nakib Sayeed Baruah, Dhemaji DEEO cum Inspector of Schools Kabita Deka and officials from District Child Protection Unit visited the CFSie at Jonai on Tuesday.
The NGO is all set to open another such camp at Murkongselek Girls’ High School relief camp at Jonai and also preparing to launch the project in Lakhimpur district soon.
As per report, the flood so far affected about 1, 38,434 populations of 430 villages in Dhemaji district; while more than 9,189 hectares cropland were submerged.
The district administration has opened two relief camps at Jonai HSS and Murkongselek Girls’ High School in worst affected Jonai sub-division wherein more than 200 relief inmates including 60 children hailed from different flood affected sites are taking shelter.
The water levels of the rivers in Dhemaji district are receding since Monday as the weather condition has gradually improved in the region.
