Assam: First train with loaded wagons crosses Bogibeel Bridge

The first freight train with IOGS BTPN (Bogie Tank wagons for loading of Petrol, Naphtha & other Petroleum products) wagons (50 tanks load) crossed the Bogibeel Bridge over the Brahmaputra for the first time on Sunday and reached Tinsukia.

According to Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) sources, it was a trial run ahead of the inauguration of the bridge.

NFR sources informed that the IOGS BTPN loads (50 tank load) meant for Digboi Refinery left Rangapara North Junction at 7:45 am on Sunday and reached New Tinsukia Junction at 3:05 pm via Bogibeel Bridge and finally reached Tinsukia at 5:15 pm.

It may be mentioned that a boggy open small type (BOST) train with 45 wagons (without load) crossed the Bogibeel Bridge on Saturday.

According to Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) sources, the BOST train which started its journey on Saturday at 9.45 am from Tinsukia via Dhamal Gaon in Dibrugarh on the south bank of the Brahmaputra and successfully reached Tengani Railway Station near Bogibeel on the north bank of the river.

The BOST train reached Rangapara North Railway Junction on Saturday at 6 pm.

NFR sources said after the successful trial run of loaded freight train, the railway authority will run passenger train on trial basis soon.

On October 22, 2018, a rail engine with 15 coaches crossed the bridge during inspection by a team of the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS). The safety team inspected the entire route from Dhamal Gaon Station in Dibrugarh (South) to Tangani Railway Station in Dhemaji (North) by the running rail engine with the coaches.

A railway official earlier told ‘Northeast Now’ that ahead of the inauguration the bridge, it is important to run train on trail basis.

On October 3, 2018, the first speed test with a rail engine from Dhamal Gaon Railway Station to the southern approach of the Bogibeel was carried out. A track machine was run on the bridge on September 20, 2018 to complete some of the track works.

The 4.94 km Bogibeel Bridge over the mighty river Brahmaputra is going to be the longest rail-cum-road bridge in India which will connect the twin districts of Dibrugarh and Dhemaji.

The bridge is expected to be commissioned by the end of this year.
