At a time when the entire state is busy with the National Register of Citizens (NRC), Assam government’s important department, Finance, has gone blank on the cyber space.
Finance department is the backbone of the state and development in every field is totally dependent on the health of the finance department, which is suddenly going off the cyber space.
A technical glitch on the Finance department website- https://www.finance.assam.gov.in–has raised serious concern.
The website has gone blank and the message displayed on the homepage said, “Your connection is not private; attackers might be trying to steal your information from www.finance.assam.gov.in “.
Whether it is a “technical glitch” or the website has been hacked by anyone could not be assessed. The SSL certification, which guarantees security of any website, has also shown cancelled or expired.
The message “attacker might be trying to steal your information for passwords, messages or credit cards…,” is sure to worry every citizen of Assam. After all, running of the entire state depends totally on the Finance department.
The website of Assam Finance department is maintained by the NIC. It is surprising how the matter has gone unnoticed by the IT department officials of the state. The state government has also not issued any statement about the matter.
Assam Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was not available for comments despite repeated attempts.
