The people of Ghoskata village in Kokrajhar district, 10 km away from Kokrajhar town, have heaved a shy of relief as their village has finally been electrified on Tuesday. All thanks go to Assam Governor Prof Jagadish Mukhi who recently visited the village.
During his visit to Ghoskata village on July 18, 2018, Assam Governor Prof Mukhi had assured the villagers that the village would be connected with electricity by December 31, 2018 under Deen Dayal Upadhaya Ujjala Yojana and Prime Minister Ujjala Yojana.

The Governor had asked the officials of the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL), Lower Assam Division to electrify Ghoskata south and middle by July 31, 2018. He gave a time-frame to the APDCL authority to start the work of electrification from July 25 and to complete it by July 31, 2018.
The villagers expressed happiness after being electrified after 70 years of Independence.

“We are happy and excited that our village has finally been electrified. We are thankful to the Governor for his prompt action. He had assured of electricity connection in our village by July 31 and today (July 31) this has come true,” said a villager.
“Till now, we have used kerosene lamp to light our houses. Our children study in insufficient light of lantern but from today onward they can study under electric light,” said a lady who has two school-going children, adding, “We are really happy and our children are excited.”
Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Principal Secretary BC Phukan, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Niranjan Baruah, Kokrajhar SP Rajen Singh, senior APDCL official Sanjay Kumar Bhumik visited the village and inaugurated the electricity connection in the village in presence of the villagers.
