Assam environmentalist Moharana Choudhury was felicitated for his noble environmental sustainability initiatives by the The Centre for Ethics & Sustainable Development (TCESD) and Young Indian Group on the occasion of World Environment Day in Guwahati.

The felicitation ceremony was held at Hotel Gateway Grandeur in Guwahati on June 5.

Choudhury was honoured with a host of other eminent environmentalists and organizations for their efforts and contribution towards sustainability and green technology.

During the event, the felicitation was done under ‘Green Technology’ and ‘Sustainability’ categories.

Choudhury who is a member of the reputed environmental organization ‘Voice of Environment’ has been honoured under the ‘Sustainability’ category.

The environmentalist is working on several initiatives to integrate sustainable projects in various heritage iconic places of Assam especially for cleanliness missions, eco-tourism promotion with livelihood generation, beat plastic pollution by focusing environment education both for school and community levels.

Choudhury has carried out cleanliness mission in major tourist destinations of the state like Kamakhya Temple, Basisatha Temple and Umananda Temple.

He has been working for various environmental research, environmental management, social media mass awareness, research study and conservation activities for the state and the country.

Choudhury has also published several research papers in national and international reputed journals so far.

He is known for his initiatives on implementation of proper environment education in school and college level curriculum in India.

He has also received previously several awards and recognitions for his contribution towards environmental conservation work.

The Chief Guest of the felicitation event was Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh.

Sanjoy Mukherjee, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Management, Shillong was present as the Guest of Honour during the event.

The other eminent personalities who attended the event include Tezpur University professor Debendra Chandra Baruah, architect Ronojoy Sen, and IIT Guwahati professor Chandan Mahanta.
