The sleuths of vigilance and anti-corruption bureau of Assam police on Friday arrested a drug inspector here for allegedly accepting bribe from a pharmacy owner.
Drug Inspector Jugal Baruah was arrested by vigilance and anti-corruption sleuths on charges of accepting a bribe from a pharmacy owner of Mahimabari at Titabar in the district.
An official of the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau said that based on a complaint received from Dipak Katoky, owner of a pharmacy in Titabar that Baruah had demanded a bribe of Rs 20000 from him after inspecting the pharmacy recently and pointing out certain anomalies, the drug inspector was caught red handed while he took the bribe.
The official said that as per the complaint, Baruah had demanded the bribe after calling Katoky at his office by threatening him that he would suspend the license of the pharmacy on these alleged deficiencies.
The rented house of Baruah at Choladhara here and his own house in Guwahati have been searched by sleuths of vigilance and anti-corruption.
The official said that Baruah has been arrested in the ACB case number 15/2018 under Sections 7/13(1) d/13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
