The Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC) on Thursday clarified that it had no link with Alphajoz Timung, one of the main accused in the mob lynching incident of Panjuri Kachari Gaon under Dokmoka Police Station in Karbi Anglong, who has been arrested by police.

The KADCC in a press release said a news item published in an Assamese daily on its issue of June 14 indicating Timung’s nexus with the Congress party “is false, baseless and fabricated”.

“Congress party has always been on its fight against anti-social elements and activities. So, the said news is nothing but just an attempt to malign the image of the party,” said the release.

The KADCC requested the media not to publish such news in future for the sake of peace and harmony.

Karbi Anglong district administration organised an all-religious prayer (Sarba Dharma Prarthana) meeting for the lynching victims – Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath at Diphu Club.

The all-religion prayer meeting was attended by members of the ruling BJP, Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Ratan Teron, former Diphu MLA Bidya Sing Engleng, Deputy Commissioner, Karbi Anglong Mridul Kumar Mahanta, former Asom Sahitya Sabha president Padma Shri Rongbong Terang and other dignitaries.

In a press release, Karbi Anglong Territorial Social Security Association (KATSSA) said the people should not visit interior places of Karbi Anglong district. The villagers have been urged not to take the law into their own hands but if they see anything suspicious or suspect anything they should inform the police.

The media persons have been also requested not to repeatedly telecast news and videos that might flare up communal hatred.
