With a view to familiarize with the folk dance of the plain Karbis of Assam, a weeklong workshop on drama and Dumahi Kekan–plain Karbi folk dance got underway at Taralangso in Diphu of Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

Inaugurating the workshop on Wednesday, Executive Member (EM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Art & Culture, Rupsing Teron stressed on the importance of drama in film making.

“Drama has a great part in film-making, if a person know drama then he has a chance in films. This workshop is an opportunity for interested persons to learn drama which will come in handy in the coming days.”

He also said that the knowledge of hill Karbi folk dance forms alone is not enough, but one should also learn the dance forms of plain Karbis in order to preserve the culture and traditions of both plain and hill Karbis.

The workshop is jointly organized by Karbi Cultural Society, Cultural Affairs Department, KAAC and Karbi Film Society. KCS president, Chandra Sing Kro; working president, 45th KYF, Daniel Bey, renowned actor Rajib Kro, deputy director, Cultural Affairs Department, Hemari Tokbi and drama instructor Pronami Bora and Dumahi dance instructor, Surjo Killing attended the inaugural function.
