In a tragic incident, just a day after the declaration of Assam Class X board exams (HSLC) results, a 16-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide on Saturday in Western Assam’s Dhubri district.

The deceased, Ritam Kundu, was reportedly upset after failing in his board exams, results of which was declared on Friday.

Ritam hanged himself from a ceiling fan in the morning at his house located at Ward No 5 of Dhubri town when her parents had gone to the market. He was a student of S P English Medium High School in Dhubri town.

A total 69 students were appeared in the HSLC examination from SP English Medium High School, out of which 44 students passed in 1st division and 21 in 2nd division while four students including Ritam Kundu failed to clear the exams.

Kamal Shil, officer-in charge of the Dhubri Sadar police station, said a case has been registered under the relevant sections of CrPC and the body of the deceased was handed over to the parents on Saturday after completing necessary formalities including post-mortem examination.

Ritam’s inconsolable parents–father Goutam and mother Rinki Kundu– said no sign that he has gone into depression over poor performance in his studies was noticed and even after getting the examinations results his behaviour was quite normal.

This is the second death in the lower Assam since the board examination result declared on Friday. A Class X girl identified as Nurzamina Begum, a student of Dubapara High School under Matia development block in the district of Goalpara, committed suicide on Friday after she failed in the high school leaving certificate examinations.
