Assam director general of police Kuladhar Saikia on Monday said that he had issued strict orders to the superintendents of police of all districts to remain alert on the issue of youths joining the ULFA (I).

Talking to media persons here in Guwahati, Saikia said, “I have also asked the special branch to remain alert and take necessary action in the matter whenever they get any input.”

The DGP also asked the police administration of the districts to verify if they get any information of recruitment in ULFA in their respective districts.

Saikia also said that Assam police had contacted Arunachal and Nagaland police seeking cooperation in this regard.

“I did contact with Arunachal Police and Nagaland Police to take action on information relating to ULFA recruitment if they have any and requested them to inform Assam Police,” Saikia said.

It may be mentioned that many youths including ULFA (I) C-in-C Paresh Baruah’s nephew Munna Baruah have joined ULFA (I) recently.

The Assam DGP said his department is ready to deal with any untoward situation that might occur during panchayat elections across the state.
