A devastating fire engulfed Bhatiapara area of Sivasagar (in Assam) today evening. The fire broke out in an area near to Ashok Leyland’s dealers’ shop in Bhatiapara – which is just behind Bhaskarjyoti cinema hall.

ONGC as well as state government’s fire fighters were pressed into service and they managed to douse the raging inferno.

Two coal-laden trucks, two oil tankers and a JCB was totally damaged in the inferno. Thick, billowing smoke engulfed the area.

There was also total commotion among moviegoers in the nearby theatre and they ran helter-skelter.

Onlookers stated there was huge traffic snarls in Bhatiapara and the entire area was enveloped by thick smoke.

It is said that while servicing Ashok Leyland vehicles, the mobil cans are thrown nearby resulting in a pool of oil. Fire originated from the oil pool accidentally and engulfed the entire area.

Two coal-laden trucks parked nearby first caught fire and from there it spread to the oil tankers. It is not known whether the oil tankers were full or empty.

The local people could hear deafening sound coming from Bhatiapara area.
