Guwahati: Devajit Saikia has resigned from the post of Advocate General of Assam, ending a nearly five-year tenure that involved key constitutional and legal responsibilities.

He submitted his resignation on Wednesday, stating that he was upholding the โ€œhigh tradition and constitutional practiceโ€ of the office. His exit follows the completion of the current governmentโ€™s term under Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In a statement after stepping down, Saikia said it was a โ€œgreat honour and privilegeโ€ to serve the state in such a significant constitutional role.

He also thanked the Chief Minister, the Council of Ministers, the legal community, fellow advocates, government officials, and others for their support, trust, and cooperation during his tenure.
