The village attained attention yet again for organizing a public felicitation function in a different way on Sunday.
Unlike the normal felicitation functions of meritorious students, this function organized by the Nagaon village development committee at the campus of Kolia Gossain temple campus witnessed felicitation not only to those students who secured good marks in their respective examinations but also to all other students who appeared in this year’s HSLC and HS final exams from the village even though he or she could not come out successful.
A total of fifteen such students were feted each with a locally made gamosa, a citation and a sapling.

The function presided over by a true son of the village Dr Hiranya Kr Nath , Professor, Sam Houston State University , USA also featured offering public honour to the grannies of the meritorious students and other few local elderly persons.
Participating the function as the chief guest progressive writer and thinker Mayur Bora termed the initiative as yet another extra ordinary example of social responsibility and unity like that of their earlier efforts of ‘Good neighbour initiative’ .
He called upon the youngsters to study hard to establish themselves in future and at the same time carry forward the paths of social commitments shown by their village elders.
“Study hard to get marks in the examination and become established but always spend few minutes for your neighbours and society,” he shared.
Speaking from the chair, Dr Hiranya Kr Nath observed that a good mark-sheet is not everything in life , there are lot of other things important to do in life.
“A good mark sheet would help you only to get a lucrative profession but not help you to become a good human being. Try to become a good citizen with human qualities like love , respect , sympathy , honesty , helpfulness etc,” maintained Dr Nath.
The function ended with a vote of thanks from secretary of the village development committee, Sarat Ch Nath.
The programme was also addressed by Harimon Deka, associate professor, Mangaldai College and a state award recipient voluntary blood donor, child activist Rashmi Rekha Sarma and local leading citizen Lankeswar Saharia among others.
