Guwahati: The Indian National Congress in Assam has called an important review meeting of its district units on May 9 to evaluate its performance in the recently concluded Assembly elections, where the opposition alliance faced a heavy defeat.
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary (organisation) Ramen Baruah has issued a circular asking concerned leaders to be present in Guwahati for the meeting.
As per the notice, all PCC office bearers, District Congress Committee presidents, in-charge presidents, and senior vice presidents have been directed to attend the review session.
The circular stated that the meeting will focus on analysing the results of the Assam Assembly Election 2026 and will take a detailed look at the partyโs organisational and electoral performance.
In the 126-member Assembly, the Congress-led opposition alliance won only 19 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA secured a decisive victory with 102 seats.
However, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi held a virtual meeting with party candidates on Tuesday to collect feedback and discuss the reasons behind the electoral outcome.
