Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has urged the youth of the state to take up farming as a dignified calling and engage with commitment and dedication in the agriculture sector to give a renewed boost to the growth trajectory of the state.

The Chief Minister said this while taking part in a Bohagi Utsav celebration at Margherita town today. The Bohagi Utsav was organized by Margherita Business Association.

Stating that Assamese culture is closely linked with agriculture, the Chief Minister said that Bihu is one such cultural festival which has reinforced harmony and bonhomie amongst different tribes and communities of the state since ages.

The Chief Minister further said that special thrust is being given by the central and state governments under the Act East policy to strengthen relations with the ten ASEAN nations.

He also expressed confidence that with improved people to people contact, trade and commerce, Assam and north east would soon become the nerve centre of India’s economic activity.

Moreover, underscoring the green and pollution free environment of the state as a major ingredient for propelling growth of Assam through increased tourist footfall, Sonowal made an appeal to the people of the state to plant at least ten samplings every year and take steps for their preservation.

Coinciding the Bohagi Utsav celebration, the Chief Minister also announced that the state government would take steps for setting up a guest house at the Buddhist temple at Margherita.
