Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal released the English translation of eminent freedom fighter and politician Jananayak Debeswa Sarma’s memoir ‘The Long Lost Days’ at a function organized by Janambhumi Group of Publications at Assam Administrative Staff College of Khanapara in Guwahati on Saturday.

The book is being translated to English by Dr Dipika Phukan. Coinciding the occasion renowned literature Dr Lakshminandan Bora released the original version of the book ‘Herai Jowa Dinbur’.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal highlighted the contributions of late Debeswar Sarma towards the socio-political life of Assam and its importance in the present day politics.

He said that Jananayak Debeswar Sarma believed in value based politics throughout his life and worked with dedication and commitment for the cause of the society. Stating that the younger generation has a lot to learn from his life and works, the Chief Minister observed that the book would be a great source of inspiration for them.

He said that serving the society with honesty, sincerity and dedication are the corner stone of social service and this reflects the true spirit of service to the nation.

The Chief Minister also stressed on maintaining social and moral values in political life saying that this would help in generating more goodwill and earning trust of the society by the politicians.

The Chief Minister also appreciated the role being played by Janambhumi Group of Publications in upholding democratic values and said that the group would continue its service in same manner and vigour in the days to come to inspire the young generation.

Dr Lakshminandan Bora in his speech lauded the step being taken by Janambhumi Group of Publications and said that release of the book was an important initiative in the literary and social life of Assam.

He said that the book reflected not only the freedom struggle of Assam but threw ample light of the national political scenario of late Debeswar Sarma’s time in a very systematic way.

Translator of the book Dr Dipika Phukan, former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, managing partner of Janambhumi Group of Publications, Subrata Sarma and several other dignitaries of social and political life of Assam were also present at the book release function.
