Senior Congress leader and former power minister Pradyut Bordoloi on Friday said that Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is scared to travel by roads due to the ongoing protests over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
“He (Sonowal) is so scared that he had to take chopper to travel short distance of 10 to 15 kms between Tinsukia to Dibrugarh and between Jorhat to Kaziranga,” Bordoloi told reporters here.
Bordoloi’s statement came in view of the Assam Chief Minister’s recent move to use chopper to travel between Dibrugarh to Tinsukia and between Jorhat and Kaziranga University which is located close to each other.
There have been protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 across the state and different organizations and individuals have been showing black flags to the Chief Minister, his cabinet colleagues and other BJP leaders in different places of the state
Bordoloi also slammed the BJP’s argument in support of Sonowal’s lead in IMDT case. “The IM (DT) act was implemented under a certain circumstance. It was repealed but the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is a different. The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 is a red carpet welcome to foreigners,” said Bordoloi.
