Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered a probe into the alleged gang-rape of a minor girl in Assam’s Nagaon district.
Sources said the Chief Minister has asked police to conduct a speedy inquiry into the incident and nab all the culprits as early as possible. ADGP Mukesh Agarwal and top police official Harmit Singh will conduct the probe.
The 11-year-old class V girl student was allegedly gang-raped and burnt to death on Friday afternoon by a group of three miscreants at Dhaniabheti Lalung Gaon under Batadraba police station the district.
After raping the girl, the miscreants splashed kerosene on her body and burnt her to death
The police said three miscreants – Jakir Hussain, 21, and the two juveniles belonging to the same village of the victim, raped the girl when she was alone at home.
Police have already arrested the two juveniles but the prime accused Jakir is still at large.
People of Lalunggaon on Saturday destroyed absconder Jakir’s house. Students’ organisation such as the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) , Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) and AIDSO carried out massive protest rallies demanding stern action against the accused.
Nagaon SP, Shankar Raimedhi said a hunt has been launched for Jakir. “We have raided seven eight places, but he is on the run,” Raimedhi said.
Last week, a woman was gang raped in Kampur in Nagaon after she and her husband were lured by one Hasmat Ali to spend the night in his house. The eight accused, all of them arrested by the police, raped her after tying her husband to a tree.
