Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of 70 MW Solar Park at Japisajia village of Amguri in Sivasagar district in a bid to boost power production and promoting clean energy in the state.
The solar park to be set up in an area of 340 acre with production life of 25 years will also provide facilities for research and development in the field of solar energy.

The park will also act as a centre for generating awareness on the use and value of solar power.
Chief Minister Sonowal while taking part in a meeting held on the occasion said that the solar power project would give a new impetus to the state government’s avowed goal of making Assam self sufficient in terms of power production.
He said that the state government has set a target to generate 6500 MW power in the state by 2030 and this goal could be achieved only through leveraging power production capacity of the state.

Stating that the state government has been working with utmost commitment to ensure better future for the youth and dignified life for the citizens of the state, the Assam CM averred that the goal of the state government is to realise equal development for all sections of people of the state without any discrimination.
Asserting that the development initiatives and the schemes of the government are being implemented with outmost transparency, the Assam CM observed that the mantra of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’ has been the guiding principle of the government.
Sonowal in this regard mentioned that government accords top priority to education sector with a view to provide better academic opportunities to the young generation and making them more capable as well as skilled to face the challenges of today’s competitive world.
He also underlined the government’s commitment by saying that free admission, text books, uniform and food as well as scholarships are being provided to the students of poor families so that they do not remain out of the purview of education.
The Chief Minister, moreover, urged parents and teachers to play a more proactive role in inspiring the youth to take up academic activities more seriously and instilling them with good moral values.
Further appreciating the Prime Minister for his vision towards the growth of Assam and Northeast, the Chief Minister said that many development projects have been announced by the central government for the region which would unleash rapid progress in the days to come.
He also lauded the efforts being made for bringing transparency in the administrative mechanism by the Prime Minister and said this lends positive impact in every sphere of social and political life of the country today.
Moreover, highlighting the positive outcome of the Act East Policy in boosting people to people contact, infrastructure development and business relations in Assam and Northeast, Chief Minister Sonowal said that a feel good environment today prevails in Assam and as a result of this flow of huge amount of investment becomes possible. He informed that in the Gas and Oil sector alone around 40,000 crore investment has been sanctioned.
Sonowal also spoke about the inherent strength of the Assamese society that has been nurtured by the ideals of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, Madhabdev, Ajan Fakir, Chaolung Sukafa, Lachit Borphukan, Bir Chilarai and many other legendary figures.
Minister of state (i/c) for Power Tapan Kumar Gogoi, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and Amguri MLA Pradip Hazarika also delivered speech on the occasion.
