Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday ceremonially distributed sanction letters for disbursal of loan by nationalised banks along with government subsidy to surrendered cadres of different insurgent groups of the state under ‘Swabalamban’ scheme.
The sanction letters were distributed in a programme held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
Introduced by the Home & Political Department of Government of Assam, the financial assistance provided to promote self-employment will benefit 508 surrendered cadres.
Speaking on the occasion, Assam CM Sonowal urged the surrendered militants to devote their energy on positive works and emerge as a strong force for development of the state.
He said that the youth who joined the mainstream have the ability and will to be the important catalysts for state’s march towards progress and the government support in this regard would surely give them a renewed impetus.
The Assam Chief Minister (CM) further called upon the ex-militants to set examples in society through constructive works and inspire the new generation. He hoped that the ‘Swabalamban’ scheme aimed at rehabilitation, capacity building and self-employment of the surrendered cadres would provide suitable opportunities for them to be the ideal citizen of the country.
DGP Kuladhar Saikia, Additional Chief Secretary in charge of Home Department Kumar Sanjay Krishna and Principal Secretary of P&RD Department JB Ekka also delivered speech in the programme.
