Tunlai Narzary

Assam chief Mminister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday congratulated athlete Tunlai Narzary for bringing laurels to the state.

Narzary won the gold in shot put at the World Police and Fire Games held at Chengdu in China.

The chief minister, through a statement, said that the Assamese youngster working in the 20th Assam Police (IR) Battalion had set a glowing example of hard work and dedication to add to the state’s list of sporting accomplishments at the international stage.

Tunlai’s achievements would be able to inspire the budding sports persons in the state to aim for excellence and make the world aware about the state’s sporting prowess, he said.

The chief minister also hoped that Tunlai would be able to repeat her stupendous success at all future events and the shot putter would keep making the people of the state and the country proud by her achievements at the world stage.

Narzary is now eyeing on the the Asian Games and Olympics to be held in 2020 in Tokyo city of Japan.

Tunlai Narzary hails from Ghilaguri Dotma village located in Kokrajhar district of Assam.

The athlete is also employed as a cop as she is stationed in the 10th Battalion of the Assam Police.
