Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal mourned the demise of eminent Assamese filmmaker and playwright Munin Baruah who breathed his last on Saturday.
Chief Minister Sonowal in a statement termed his death as an irreparable loss to the Assamese film and drama industry. “With many of his popular movies like Prabhati Pakhir Gaan, Daag, Nayak, Hiya Diya Niya, Bidhata, Barood, Dinabandhu, Ramdhenu etc, Munin Baruah left an indelible mark in the Assamese film industry.
Baruah devoted his entire life for the excellence of the film and drama industry in Assam and the void created by his passing away would never be fulfilled”, Sonowal said.
He also expressed his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Chief Minister Sonowal directed the Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam to take all necessary measures for performing the last rites of the renowned film maker with state honour. Moreover, Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley and Media Advisor to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami paid homage to the distinguished film maker on behalf of the government.
