The meeting assumes significance considering the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on January 4, 2019 to start the campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the State.
Sources informed that the top brass of the BJP discussed the issues relating to Lok Sabha polls preparations and the ongoing opposition by many organizations to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and the issues relating to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) updating process.
The Prime Minister has already visited Assam on Tuesday and inaugurated the Bogibeel Bridge over the river Brahmaputra.
Although the BJP is in alliance with the regional political party, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), the relationship between the two political parties has soured during the recently-held Panchayat polls.
BJP’s Assam unit president Ranjeet Kumar Dass has already written to the party’s central leadership over the growing bitterness with the regional party.
