Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended the Birangana Sadhini Divas programme organized by Cultural Affairs Directorate, Assam government with Dhemaji district administration at Dhemaji.
Speaking at the function he said, “Birangana Sati Sadhini is the very epitome of honesty, bravery and sacrifice that has characterized the Assamese society. She acts as a source of inspiration for faith, courage and determination intact in carrying out one’s responsibilities.”
Stating that the countries, which respect women, have become successful in the world. Figures like Sati Sadhini and Joimoti would only be honoured in the true sense when Assamese women are given the respect they deserve. He also said that strong legislations would be implemented by the state government to prevent crimes against women and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also taken steps to mete out stringent punishment to all those engaged in such heinous crimes.
Informing that the state government has made a request to the Gauhati High Court to set up fast-track courts in all districts for speedy trial of cases of crimes against women, Sonowal said that awareness programs in all towns and villages of the state would be carried out for ensuring protection of women’s dignity.
Sonowal said that the MPs and MLAs have taken proactive steps for speedy development of embankments, bridges and power connectivity in the area. Lots of roads have already been constructed and both state and the central governments are working towards setting up different institutions for making this North Bank region an economic hub, he added.
Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley, MP Pradan Baruah, MLAs Dr. Ranuj Pegu, Bhuban Pegu, Rituparna Baruah, Secretary of Cultural Affairs Department Madhurima Baruah Sen, Director of Cultural Affairs Department Barnali Sarma were also present in the programme along with representatives of Sadou Asom Chutia Jati Sanmilan, Sadou Chutia Chatra Sanmilan among others.
