Assam CM advocates use of digital tech in teaching & learning

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday advocated use of digital technology in teaching and learning.

“This is the era of digital technology and smart classrooms. Now classrooms will require teachers and students to be innovative beyond the use of traditional textbooks,” said Sonowal while participating in the concluding function of the Golden Jubilee celebration of Madhupur High School at Barbaruah in Dibrugarh on Thursday.

Chief Minister Sonowal added, “The students’ community should take advantage of every digital platform like laptops, computers, tablets and smartphones to enhance their learning process.”

Stating that children are the future of the nation, the CM stressed the role of teachers, guardians and parents in building their character and personality.

“Our government is committed to provide quality education to all. We have introduced ‘Gunotsav’ for evaluating the quality of education in schools. Apart from having proficiency in academics a student should be disciplined, punctual, dedicated and obedient. The teachers and guardians have a very important role in inculcating these qualities in the students,” the CM added.

He also appreciated the sacrifices made by the teachers in Madhupur and Gorudhoria areas. “They have to face problems of flood, erosion and wild elephants. But it has not stopped them from performing their duties with sincerity and dedication,” said Sonowal.

Last year, the Madhupur area was badly affected by flood and elephant menace has been disturbing the people of the area for the last few years.

MP Rameswar Teli, MLAs Prashanta Phukan, Chakradhar Gogoi, Binod Hazarika, Bimal Borah, Jogen Mohan, Dibrugarh DC Laya Madduri, educationalist Deben Dutta were also present on the occasion.

The CM also reiterated the need that the people of the State should take the larger agenda of transforming Assam into an ideal State and pointed out that everybody should work resolutely to achieve the end.  He, however, conceded that the people belonging to different ethnicities of the State are suffering from different problems and with the collective efforts these problems can be overcome to make the lives of the people easier.

On the other hand, Sonowal also announced that to give succour to the people belonging to Madhupur, Bogibeel, Lezai, Gorudhoria and Kolakhuwa from the perennial problem of flood and erosion a ring embankment to be constructed with a financial outlay of Rs 18 crore.  Indian Railway has sanctioned the amount to construct a 3km long ring embankment to protect the area from floods water of river Brahmaputra, he said.
