Days after Army veteran Mohammed Sanaullah was declared as a foreigner by the Boko Foreigners’ Tribunal, an Assam based Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan has been served a Doubtful Voter (D-voter) notice by a Foreigners’ Tribunal in Kamrup district.

The jawan Mahmud Ali who is currently posted in Bankura district of West Bengal recently got a call from a government official saying that he had to appear for a hearing as a D-voter notice has been served to him.
The 46-year-old man took a leave from his duty and appeared for the hearing on July 6.

The staff present during his hearing checked all his documents and assured him that his case will be cleared.
The jawan produced documents of his father Keramat Ali’s 1946 school certificate and copies of 1951 NRC and 1966 voter’s list.
Both the jawan and his father’s name are present in the 1951 NRC and 1966 voters’ list.
The names of the family members of Mahmud Ali also appeared in the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Mahmud Ali hails from Nagarbera village of Kamrup Rural district in Assam.
It may be mentioned that retired army official Mohammed Sanaullah from Kolohikas village in Assam’s Kamrup district was declared a ‘foreigner’ by the Boko Foreigners’ Tribunal on May 23.
Born in 1967 to one Mohammed Ali of Kalahikash village under Boko in Kamrup district, Sonaullah had joined the Indian Army in 1987 and served for 30 years before he was retired as a Honourary Captain in 2017.
In 2014, Sonaullah was also conferred upon a Presidents’ Certificate for his promotion to the rank of Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO).
