Assam bypolls: Cong announces candidates for 4 assembly seats

The Congress on Saturday announced names of its candidates for the upcoming by-poll to four assembly seats in Assam.

Party sources said Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the proposal for candidates of four bye-elections to Assam

Party worker Keshab Prasad Rajak has been named as candidate from Ratabari seat while Samsul Haque has been fielded from Jania constituency.

Kartik Kurmi has been given ticket to contest from Rangapara and Sushil Suri has been named as candidate from Sonari seat, said apart leader.

By-election was necessitated as Tapan Gogoi (Sonari), Pallab Lochan Das (Rangapara), and Kripanath Mallah (Ratabari) of BJP respectively won in the 2019 Lok Savbha polls.

Jania MLA Abdul Kalaque won the Lok Sabha polls from Barpeta and vacated the seat.

While Gogoi was power minister, Das was labour minister.
