Supporting the theory of one nation one poll, the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) on Sunday welcomed the move and said that it will save time, resources and revenue for the nation.
Rajya Sabha MP and BPF leader Biswajit Daimary conveyed his party’s support to the simultaneous polls before the Chairman of Law Commission Dr Justice BS Chauhan and other members on the matter holding Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously.

“I on behalf of my party, BPF, welcome and support the move of holding elections simultaneously and will cooperate with your commission,” said Daimary in a memorandum submitted to the commission.
He said that it is a welcome step to hold Lok Sabha and Assembly elections at the same time. “The effect of holding such elections together will be saving time, resources and revenue for the nation. Further it will minimize many factors with regard to deployment of arms and paramilitary forces throughout the nation. Further it will minimize the burden of public servants who are made elections officers and are part of the election process,” said Daimary.
Daimary further suggested to the Ministry of Law and Justice to make a provision for qualification of a representatives like age limit, terms limit, minimum qualification and also to give more responsibility by amending the peoples representative act.

Meanwhile, the AIADMK talked in the same line of the Opposition by opposing the motion of conducting simultaneous polls.
AIADMK leader Thambi Durai said that when the people had elected MLAs in different States for five years, it would be inappropriate to curtail the term of the Houses. “Our stand would be applicable not just to Tamil Nadu but also to other States, including Assam, Gujarat and Tripura, where the BJP is in power,” he said.
As far as conducting simultaneous elections in 2024 was concerned, Durai said that a consensus among all parties should be arrived at, apart from ascertaining the views of the public. “Once these steps are taken, our party will consider the matter,” he said.
The Commission had last month reached out to all recognised national and regional parties seeking their views on the issue and invited them for one-to-one meeting in Delhi on July 7, 8 and 11.
