Sensation prevails in Assam’s Udalguri district following recovery of the body of 28-year-old Hemanta Mahanta, who had gone missing five days back.

According to information, Hemanta Mahanta is the son of one Mahananda Mahanta, an inhabitant of Jalah village under Tangla police station in Udalguri district.

Reportedly, the youth, who was a junior engineer working for the District Rural Development Agencies (DRDA), Udalguri, had gone missing while he was returning  home after visiting his aunt’s place on Thursday morning.

Police had been searching for Hemanta Mahanta since Thursday and recovered his motorbike and slippers near Aulachowka’s Rangamati Path in Darrang district.

Meanwhile, various organizations including Udalguri West Unit of the All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) have demanded a high-level probe into the case.
