As the winter chill turns harsh with each passing day, Hojai Town’s Gobindapally SGBE Thrift and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd distributed 53 blankets among the less privileged people of the society of Hojai district of Assam on Sunday.

The blankets were distributed among the needy at Venu-Bidyasagar M E School of Golaghatia Basti in Hojai on Sunday.

Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Hojai, Susil Sarkar graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest lauded Gobindapally SGBE Thrift and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd for its social activities and assured of all possible help and cooperation in such undertakings.

He also informed, “We can help economically backward person to establish a co-operative society to prepare ‘pitha’ and sell it in the market. For this we can arrange necessary training for preparation and preservation of ‘pitha’.

Earlier, the secretary of the society, Prasanta Kar briefly explained the objective of the programme and thanked Vishwa Hindu Parishad president Ratan Roy who helped in selecting the beneficiaries.

Along with the president Sankar Prasad Roy, other members of the co-operative society were present during the blanket distribution programme that included Biswajit Dutta, Swepnesh Paul, Gopal Acharjee, Asit Banik, Ashok Ghosh, Nirmal Pandit, Satya Brata Sarkar, Bhupendar Singh and Pankaj Dev.
