Assam: Bhogeswar Baruah to flag off ‘Walk for Vote’ rally in Sivasagar

An awareness rally will be organised in Sivasagar election district on April 7 next to create awareness among the voters of the three Assembly segments in the district.

The rally christened as ‘Walk for Vote’ will be taken out in Sivasagar town on that day to encourage voters’ participation of the three LACs – 103 Amguri, 107 Thowra and 108 Sivasagar – in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

The Sivasagar election district falls in Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency that goes to polls in the first phase on April 11 next.

The rally will be organized at the Boarding field in Sivasagar and simultaneously at four other development blocks and 62 gaon panchayats.

The rally at Sivasagar town will be formally flagged off by the district icon of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Arjun awardee Bhogeswar Baruah.

Assam’s well-known singer and composer Manas Robin will also participate in the rally.

The rally, to be flagged off at 7 am on April 7 next, will be participated by all officials and employees of the Sivasagar district administration, senior citizens, members of the traders’ body and general public.

In order to apprise all about the ‘Walk for Vote’ rally, a meeting was held at the Sukafa conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office recently.

The election officer of the district, Jagadish Brahma, who was present in the meeting elaborated on various initiatives taken under SVEEP to increase voters’ participation in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

Notably, so far in the election district, as many as 45,565 mock polls were conducted where around 55,000 voters were made aware about use of EVMs and VVPATs, stated a press communique.

Brahma also apprised those present in the meeting about the services provided under i-help through the Common Service Centres (CSCs) at the grassroots level, such as, C-vigil, PWD app etc.

Additional deputy commissioner Dilip Terang who was also present in the meeting sought cooperation from all concerned for conduct of free and fair election.

The meeting was also attended by veteran sportsperson Arjun Awardee Bhogeswar Baruah, Dr Pratim Sharma, administrative officials and stakeholders of District SVEEP committee, it added.
