The Gauhati High Court (HC) on Friday granted bail to three more officers of the Assam Civil Service and Assam Police Service arrested in connection with the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job-scam.

Those who have been granted bail are former Congress leader Nilamoni Sen Deka’s son Rajorshi Sen Deka, Amarjit Das and Harshajyoti Bora. Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan’s court has granted bail to Amarjit Das and Harshajyoti Bora while Justice Manas Ranjan Pathak’s court has granted bail to Rajorshi Sen Deka. With this, the number of officers to get bail has gone up to 12 so far.

On Thursday, Justice Phukan’s court granted bail to nine officers of Assam Civil Service and Assam Police Service. Those granted bail on Thursday are Dipak Khanikar, Kunal Das, Sudipta Goswami, Gitali Doley, Rumi Saikia, Sunaina Aideu, Sabira Imran, Dilip Kumar Kalita and Badarul Islam.

The said officers were arrested on November 8 last year and since then they were lodged at the Central Jail in Guwahati. It may be recalled that altogether 54 persons including prime accused and tainted former Chairman of APSC Rakesh Paul were arrested in connection with the multi-crore cash-for-job scam.

Earlier, APS officer and daughter of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP’s) Tezpur Lok Sabha MP RP Sharma, Pallavi Sharma was granted interim bail for 14 days on August 1 last. The Gauhati High Court had granted the interim bail to Pallavi Sharma on “humanitarian grounds”. Pallavi Sharma was supposed to provide a kidney to her father, RP Sharma, who has been undergoing treatment for kidney ailment in Kolkata.

The APSC cash-for-job scam came to light after the Dibrugarh police arrested Naba Kanta Patir, an engineer from Dibrugarh, after they caught him red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a woman doctor against a secured Government job on October 27, 2016. And the rest as they say is history….
