Aiming to promote sportsmanship, fitness and harmony among the civil populace, the Army camp of Balijana in Goalpara district of Assam under the aegis of Red Horns Division conducted Goalpara Half Marathon on the occasion of World Diabetes Day.

The marathon was conducted in two open categories – 21 km (open for men) and 11 km (open for women).

Also the day being Children’s Day, a five km mini event was organized for school children.

The event saw overwhelming response from civilians in diversified age categories as more than 500 people ran the open half marathon event and 150 children from various schools of Goalpara  participated in the five km mini run.

The event further emulsified a sense of mutual trust and belongingness between various strata of the society and local communities and served as a living example of unity in diversity.

The event was exemplified by folk dance by a cultural troupe, pipe band display and a dog show.

The conduct of this event was highly appreciated by the local population.
