A 22-year-old Indian Army jawan allegedly committed suicide in Upper Assam’s Jorhat on Tuesday night.
The deceased jawan has been identified as Parthiban P who reportedly shot himself dead with his service rifle.
He was posted at the 41 Sub-Area military station at Lichubari here and originally hails from Tamil Nadu.
Police officials said prima facie it is a case of suicide.
Police said that the jawan was on duty near Officers’ Mess Gate of the station last night.
He allegedly shot himself at around 10 pm.
The body has been sent for post-mortem.
It is yet to be ascertained what pushed the Army jawan to take this extreme step.
