Dibrugarh: Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De and recently elected Member of Parliament from Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha was taken from Dibrugarh Central Jail at 4 am on Friday morning for an oath-taking ceremony in New Delhi.

Singh wearing a white shirt, black long pants and an orange turban, boarded a police vehicle from inside the Dibrugarh Central Jail at around 3.52 am and the vehicles left the jail at 4 am.

Singh was first taken to the Air Force base at Mohanbari airport in eight vehicles of Punjab and Dibrugarh police.

Singh, who was arrested under the NSA and detained in Dibrugarh Central Jail, was granted four days’ parole.

Singh will be sworn in as a Member of Parliament during this period.

 Amritpal contested the recent Lok Sabha elections from the Khadur Saheb constituency in Punjab and won with a huge margin.

Singh was granted four days of parole by the District Magistrate of Amritsar.

He will have to take an oath and return within this period.

The conditions outlined in Singh’s parole order are stringent, prohibiting him or his relatives from making any public statements during his visit to New Delhi. Moreover, any form of media coverage, including videography or circulation of statements, is strictly prohibited.

In addition, Singh has been instructed not to engage in any activities that might compromise national security.

The deployment of security personnel during his temporary release and presence in Delhi will be overseen by the SSP, Amritsar (Rural).

Amritpal Singh the chief of Waris Punjab De has been imprisoned in Dibrugarh Jail since April 23, 2023, after his arrest under the National Security Act.
