Aadhaar enrolment will be rolled out in Dibrugarh district from October 6 through 43 centres.
Aadhaar is a 12-digit number issued by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) to every individual resident of India.
The enrolment procedure involves collection of biometric and demographic data like thumb impression, iris san, photograph along with proof of age, address and identity for an Aadhaar number.
In this connection, a training programme for persons appointed by Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner’s office for verification of documents at enrolment centres was held at the District Training Centre of Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday.
In her address, Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri urged people not to confuse Aadhaar with citizenship updating process.
“Aadhaar is not proof of citizenship. Both the processes are completely different. Aadhaar is only unique identification of an individual with biometric data,” she said.
District development commissioner Jadav Saikia, Additional deputy commissioner Dipu Kumar Deka and representatives from UIDAI were also present in the training programme.
