As most of the political parties are gearing up to contest the Panchayat election in Assam, which is scheduled to be held within December 15, 2018, the Congress party is also not lagging behind.
As part of their preparations for the Panchayat polls, the Congress has tried its best to boost the party’s organisational strength in different parts of the State.
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora on Sunday claimed that nearly 60 people from the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) joined the party during the last executive committee meeting of the Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee at Diphu.
Informing this on his Twitter handle, APCC president Ripun Bora also stated that the new members joined the Congress in presence of Harish Rawat, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC), in charge of Assam.
Ripun Bora tweeted on Sunday: “Nearly 60 people from ASDC, AGP & BJP today joined in congress at our last extended executive meeting of Karbi anglong and West Karbi anglong DCC at Diphu in presence of Sri Harish Rawat ji.”
On Saturday, Harish Rawat, during his Hojai visit along with Ripun Bora, lashed out at the Sarbananda Sonowal Government in Assam stating “Sonowal Government is playing ‘Divide and Rule’ game by segregating the society for their own benefit.”
Rawat said this while speaking to media persons in a condolence meeting organised by the Hojai District Congress Committee at Juraphukuri under Hojai district.
Referring to the recent killing of five innocent civilians at Dhola in Tinsukia district, Rawat attacked the Sonowal Government for its failure to provide proper security to the common people “though they have inputs from security agencies”. He said, “It’s complete failure of the BJP Government to maintain peace in Assam. But in the 15-year reign of Congress Government there was complete peace and tranquility in the State.”
