Assam: 42 centres identified for Aadhaar enrolment in Dhubri district

For rolling out the Aadhaar process in Dhurbi district, starting from Saturday, the district administration has identified a total of 42 places as ‘Aadhaar enrolment centres’.

The Aadhaar enrolment centres will cover eight revenues circles namely Dhubri, Gauripur, Golakganj, Agomoni, Bilaipara, Chapar, South Salmara and Athani of Dhubri district.

Ananta Lal Gyani, Deputy Commissioner, Dhubri said that for smooth execution of the entire exercise in each enrolment centre, one Government employee has been notified as ‘verifier’ against each enrollment centre notified against his name.

The verifier, who will act as in-charge of each enrolment centre, has also verified the documents to be brought by the residents as name proof/address proof/age proof, etc.

Further, the verifier will also be required to bio-metrically sign off enrolment at the end of each day.

Verification of the details entered in the enrollment form in comparison to the information available in the documents carried by the residents and sign on the enrolment update form will also be the job of the said ‘verifier’ as further added by Gyani.

Dhubri Circle has maximum 8 enrollment centres followed by Bilasipara with 7 centres, Gauripur, Agomoni and South Salmara with 5 centres each while Chapar, Golakganj and Athani circles have 4 enrolments centres respectively.

It may be mentioned that the apex court in its recent judgment clarified that Aadhaar card is not mandatory for opening a bank account or for getting new SIM card. However, it will be mandatory for availing Government subsidy.
