The seized cattle

Dhubri police seized 35 cattle from two different areas of the district and arrested one person for his alleged involvement in cattle smuggling.

In a pre-dawn raid conducted by a team of Dhubri police, suspected cattle smuggler Azad Ali was arrested from Madhusoulmari area under Gauripur police station of the district.

Police seized 15 cattle from Madhusoulmari area while 20 cattle were seized from Balajan area which were being transported illegally from the adjoining area, police said adding that the source and destination of the transported animals has yet not been ascertained.

Earlier, a joint team of Kokrajhar and Dhubri police had carried out operations at four places in Dhubri and Gauripur against cattle syndicates on Monday and Tuesday but failed to arrest anyone.

Police of the two districts intensified the search operation in order to arrest four cattle smugglers of Dhubri district — Saiful Islam, A.K. Mondal, Adam Ali and Jahangir Alom — in connection with a case registered at Kachugoan police station in Kokrajhar district.

On Monday, Dhubri police seized 15 cattle from the Balajan area on National Highway 31. The cattle were being transported in an unregistered three-wheeler. Two persons identified as Raju Miyan resident and Inamul Hussein of Chagolia were arrested in connection with the case.
