Assam: 3 suspected Hizb-ul Mujahideen operatives set free

Assam Police released the three youths, who were nabbed from Barpeta district for allegedly having links with terrorist outfit Hizb-ul Mujahideen.

Police officials said acting on a tip-off, police on Saturday night arrested Nasiruj Jaman, Hemanta Deka and Azhar Ali from Barpeta and they were taken to Doboka police station in Hojai district. After questioning for about three hours at the police station, they were allowed to go.

As many as seven people have been arrested in Assam in the last ten days on the suspicion of having links with the terrorist organisation, Hizb-ul Mujahideen.

After Uttar Pradesh Police nabbed Hizb-ul Mujahideen terrorist Qamar-us-Zaman in Kanpur last week, joint operations were launched by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), along with the Assam Police, and Crime Branch in the state of Assam as part of operations to neutralise individuals having links with foreign-based extremist organisations.

Interestingly, prior to their release, Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia told reporters in Guwahati that police that gathered lots of explosive information from the three youths.

“The three youths are being interrogated at the police station. A lot of vital information about Hizb-ul Mujahideen have come to light during interrogation,” Saikia said.
