Assam’s archer Promila Daimary has brought laurels to the nation by winning gold on in recurve event at the Asia Cup World Ranking Archery Tournament which is underway at Bangkok in Thailand.
In the recurve women’s competition, Promila defeated Natalia Erdynieva of Russia by 7-3 in the final.
Promila Daimary, whose global ranking is 30, previously represented India’s Women’s Archery team in Mexico in 2017 at the Hyundai World Archery Championship 2017 among other international championships.
It is to be mentioned that 20-year-old Promila hails from Dahlahabi village of Khagrabari near Bhergaon in Udalguri district under the Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD).
She is the second daughter of Obiram Daimary and Renubala Daimary.
Promila was also honoured by the United Brothers Club (UBC) as the most promising sportsperson during a function held at the NEDFi Haat auditorium in Guwahati on May 19, 2017. She was also handed over a cash award of Rs 50,000, donated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, which was contributed by the family members of Putu Saikia of Biswanath Chariali.
The Asia Cup World Ranking Archery Tournament which was started on March 2 at Bangkok in Thailand will conclude on March 9, 2018. In the tournament, India’s Muskan Kirar also clinched gold in compound event.
