Arunachali fashion designer Yana Nagoba, after creating waves in the national fashion industry has wowed China with her creations.
She was honoured with best national costume award at the “Miss Model of the World 2018”, held in Shenzhen, China recently.
According to a report in The Hindu, Her uniquely crafted costume for Mumbai-based model Sonali Bhalerao, who was the Indian representative at the pageant, was adjudged the best.
She decided to showcase her northeast heritage through the costume. She made a lehenga choli with dupatta using Muga silk from Assam and Pomo fabric of Arunachal Pradesh.
The ornaments that used are a mix of Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur and Mizoram orients which she had collected from every state from artisans who specialize in crafting jewellery.
She used Arunachal’s Nyishi tribe’s motif on the ahimsa silk (Eri silk). It was dyed in black, white and red; and the Muga silk was woven on loin loom.
Muga yarn was sourced from Dhakuakhana and weaved in Naharlagun, the Eri yarn came from Narayanpur, and was dyed in Guwahati and weaved in Bhalukpong.
She also showcased her out-of-the-box creations at the prestigious London Fashion Week previously.
