Police on Saturday arrested two men and seized 36 grams of heroin from their possession in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to reports, the two youths have been identified as Bengia Rigia and Sosar Punung.
Sosar was found with 31 grams of heroin and the rest of the 5 grams was discovered to be with Bengia.
A police team was formed to check drug racket in Itanagar and based on a tip-off, an investigation was started and soon the two youths were caught.
Sosar was arrested from a government quarter in Vivek Vihar area of the city and Bengia was arrested from his house in Mowb-II area.
Both the accused persons were found to be relations of top politicians of the state.
While Bengia is the son of People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) chief Kahfa Bengia, Sosar is the brother-in-law of Congress’s Palin constituency candidate Takam Pario.
Apart from heroin, 58 long and 42 small plastic tubes used to sell drugs have also been recovered from their possessions.
Last year, a woman named Anita Das was also caught after the Lower Dibang Valley district administration and the Anti-Drug Squad, Roing, raided her rented house at Mayu-II and a plastic packet containing 21 paper-wrapped packs of heroin or brown sugar weighing 7.20 grams was seized. Apart from the NDPS substance, Rs. 32,800 in cash was also seized from her possession. The woman who lives with a tribal man has been running the racket for the some months.
