Transport Director Tage Tado, attending a mass meeting and awareness programme organized by All Naharlagun Auto-rickshaw Welfare Association (ANAWA) on Sunday, said that traffic rules framed by government need to be followed by all.

Addressing the function as chief guest, he said that rules, regulations and guidelines are modified from time to time for the convenience of all.

People should obey the rules of the road to avoid fines and punishment.

“Since the roads in the Capital Complex are under construction, we should change our mindset and attitude while driving so that we do not cause inconvenience to others and be responsible for accidents,” he said, urging all stakeholders to be aware of and respect traffic rules.

“Don’t mix drinking with driving and take precautionary measures while driving for the safety of others,” he said and assured support to the transport federation and allied associations.

All Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operator Association (AAPTOA) president, John Panye, as guest of honour, said that the motto of any union, association or organization should be the welfare of its members and at the same time they should adhere to the rules.

“There have been instances of traffic violations by the members of the unions and others, but at the end of the day, the State earns a bad image that is difficult to clean. Since the capital is the face of the State, members of unions have to show the right attitude and be hospitable. There is a need for inculcating discipline and emphasizing on wearing uniform by commercial vehicle drivers like those of other states do,” he said.

Panye also advised good relationship between transport unions and the district administration and police besides abiding by traffic rules for smooth functioning of the transport system in the capital and the State as a whole.

All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) president, Dobing Sonam appealed to all transport federation and transport association members to join hands and ‘show our strength for a better Arunachal by following traffic rules’.

He urged all members to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and documents are updated, which is mandatory for commercial vehicle owners as well as drivers.

He appealed to all the members concerned to obey traffic rules and coordinate the capital administration for a better traffic system.

ACCFU president, Tarh Kaha, secretary, Kiogi Gichik Tagia and finance secretary, Dado Londa also addressed the gathering.

The mass meeting and awareness programme was organized by ANAWA under the banner of AAPPTF and attended by several auto-rickshaw owners and drivers of the township.
