Minister of state (independent charge) for power, new and renewable energy R K Singh on Thursday informed the Lok Sabha that the Lower Subansiri hydropower project of Arunachal Pradesh is one among the 13 cost overrun projects that have been stalled in the country.

The 4706 MW hydropower project amounting over Rs 13000 crore had to be stalled as many organizations protested against the continuation of the project fearing that huge devastation might occur in the downstream areas of the dam.
As per reports, Sikkim had five stalled cost overrun hydropower projects.
Singh stated some measures for revival of stalled hydropower projects which includes declaring projects above 25 MW as renewable energy sources, budgetary support for flood moderation and budgetary support to cost of enabling infrastructure.
He also stated that currently 204 hydropower projects above 25 MW are in operation.
Singh also added that the government is planning to install 175 GW of renewable power by 2022.
Out of the 175 GW renewable power planned to be installed, 100 GW is expected to generated from solar power, 60 GW from wind, 10 GW from bio-power and five GW from small hydro power.
