A meeting was held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Wednesday to discuss the traffic management system and work out ways to improve the traffic system in the Capital Complex of Arunachal Pradesh.

Present in the meeting were local legislator Techi Kaso, Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan, Capital Complex SP N Harsha Vardhan, SP (Traffic) Irak Bagra, EACs Hengo Basar and Toko Babu, Highway EE Nani Tath and various other officers and officials from the departments concerned.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kaso stressed that the system of haphazard parking of vehicles during peak hours is one of the main reasons of traffic congestion in the Capital Complex and strict action should be taken to discourage such people.

He stressed that violators of traffic rules should be issued challan which should then be forwarded to the court which would bring fear among the defaulters.

Kaso urged the traffic police to work without fear and check such defaulters so that strict action can be taken as per law. He also stressed that traffic wardens should be on duty even on all days in a week.

DC Dhawan said parking and no parking zones have already been notified which requires strict compliance and asked all the traffic officers and officials to implement the same strictly.

He also stressed that the traffic officials/wardens should be able to manage traffic where there’s only one way allowed.

“At no cost two-way should be allowed at one-way traffic,” stressed the DC and asked the SP Capital to deploy additional forces wherever required.

The DC also directed that heavy vehicles would not be allowed to enter the Capital Complex during peak hours of 7 am to 9 pm while the traffic officers’ in-charge of Itanagar and Naharlagun were directed not to allow intercity buses to enter the Capital Complex any cost and the same should be diverted through the Papunallah- Jullang- Chimpu road and vice- versa.

Further, no buses would be allowed to park at the NH-415 opposite Clock Tower, Dhawan said.

He also informed that executive magistrates would conduct an exercise along with OC Traffic, Itanagar/ Naharlagun once in a week to check the follow up of traffic rules.

Further, TK Engineering and Consortium Limited was directed to regularly sprinkle water on the highways to avoid dust.

EAC Toko Babu presented a power point presentation on the traffic management system of Capital Complex.
