In June, five Indian Army soldiers were killed in a similar accident when their tank was swept away by flash floods in eastern Ladakh.

The soldiers were participating in a military drill near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China when a sudden surge in the river’s water level caused the tank to sink.

The victims included four jawans and one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO).
