Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on Monday said that proper road communication will usher in development for the people of the Yobin tribe inhabiting Gandhigram in the remote Vijaynagar circle in Changlang district.
The Yobin tribe is locally known as Lisu.
Even today helicopters are the means of communication for residents of Gandhigram as there are no motorable roads to the place.
The chief minister recently inaugurated a helipad at Gandhigram while on his visit to Vijaynagar.
There is an advanced landing ground in Vijaynagar where fighter jets and large transport planes land.
The Indian Air Force and Indian Army had upgraded this landing ground in 2019.
The people of Gandhigram have been facing immense hardships because of lack of transportation, which has also hindered in the infrastructural development of the region.
“Held a public meeting with the local #Yobin community at Gandhigram. Yobin also known as #Lisu have suffered immensely due to lack of development and proper road communication. All that is going to change in the coming days. Road will be our priority first,” Pema Khnadu tweeted.
