The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) led by its President and Asom Sahitya Sabha Award winner YD Thongchi on Friday conducted a day-long Gramlok Poets’ Meet at Pakam village of West Siang district.

Also present on the occasion were Galo Language Development Committee (GLDC) Chairman Dr Takop Zirdo, Secretary Yadom Loyi and senior journalist Mukul Pathak.

Story on Jayee Bone and Buru Tapu by Henduk Loyi, poem on naming of Pakam village by Minken Loyi, poems in Hindi by Jumsi Siram, Yadam Loyi and collections of poems by wife of Takop Zirdo were presented on the day.

Thongchi said, “Literature is the mirror through we see our society and many wonderful civilisations are based on strength of creative writings of the writers across the world. Beautiful stories, anecdotes, poems and plays can hold us for hours together to imbibe value of humanism, love, sublimity, liberalism in the making of a conducive society to live in and it is important to create platforms for budding writers across the State.”

He said that APLS units have been opened in Pasighat, Ziro and Aalo. Gradually, units will be opened in all districts of the State in the days to come and APLS will help out all upcoming writers and poets in their endeavours to bring out books.

“Writers, poets and philosophers are immortal as their writings never die and have deep bearings and impact on society,” said Takop Zirdo, the man behind deciphering Galo language which holds relevance to ‘write as we speak and speak as we write’.

Appreciating the counting of genealogy right from their forefathers and naming the offspring from last two three alphabets by the Galos as a unique trend, TV reporter Pathak stressed on bringing out all these orally transmitted aspects in written forms and giving due patronage to coming generation to be a part of the literary society.

PHED Executive Engineer Kirba Sora and Yadam Loyi were selected as the president and secretary for the APLS West Siang unit.

Pakam HGB Horgam Loyi gave away certificate and cash award of Rs. 1000 to each participant as encouragement.

The team of APLS also visited Kabu Maasi, the cleanest colony of Aalo town and Kugi Komto village and appreciated the people of those villages for maintaining cleanliness.
